For family members

You don’t need to make another trip to fix Mum’s iPad

If your parent lives in an aged care facility or retirement village and they’re stuck on something — the iPad won’t connect to the WiFi, the printer is making angry noises, a “Microsoft warning” popup has them worried, the photos of last weekend’s birthday aren’t showing up — we can help without you driving out there again.

Two things make this easier than calling a general computer-repair company:

  • We come into the facility. Our technicians are police-checked, sign in at reception, and work bedside. We’ve done this thousands of times — facility staff know the drill.
  • We’re patient. Genuinely patient. If your parent needs us to explain the same thing four times, we explain it four times — without sighing, without rushing, without making them feel stupid. That’s the whole job.

You can book on their behalf and pay over the phone with your card. Your parent doesn’t need to remember anything — we’ll have all the details from you before we arrive.

What it costs

Most resident jobs are done in 30–60 minutes. We’ll quote you up front before any work starts. No Fix, No Fee — if we can’t help, you don’t pay. Or use the Free Quick Quote form below if you’d rather not call right now.

Family account access — add unlimited siblings, partners, or carers

Your parent’s PCD account supports unlimited authorised account holders, so you and your siblings can all see and arrange tech help for your parent without your parent having to share card details with any of you.

  • Each family member has their own login — pays from their own card, gets their own emailed visit summaries.
  • One shared view of every booking, invoice, and follow-up note across the whole family.
  • The facility’s lifestyle coordinator can be added too, as a non-paying contact, so they can see what’s scheduled.

If you’re the resident reading this

We’ll help you — at your pace, in plain English

You can call us yourself or get your family to book on your behalf. Either way, when our technician arrives we’ll:

  • Sit down with you and your device
  • Listen to what’s not working, in your own words
  • Fix it — and show you how, only if you want us to
  • Write down anything you need to remember, in big print

If something we say doesn’t make sense, please tell us. There are no silly questions. We’d much rather slow down and explain than leave you stuck again next week.

If you’d prefer not to have someone in your room, that’s fine — we can do most things over the phone while you look at your screen. Just tell us when you call.

What we help residents with

Tablets & iPads

  • Connecting to the facility’s resident WiFi
  • Setting up FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom for video calls with family
  • Email setup — Gmail, Outlook, Bigpond
  • Photos: viewing, sharing, getting them off an old camera
  • Making text bigger; making icons easier to see
  • Apps: news, ABC iView, Spotify, eBooks, Kindle, banking, MyGov

Laptops & desktops

  • Slow computer running better
  • Printer setup and “why won’t it print” troubleshooting
  • Wireless mouse, keyboard, headphones pairing
  • Backups so nothing important is lost
  • New laptop setup, including transferring everything from the old one

Email, web, and account help

  • Password reset (and a written record kept somewhere safe)
  • MyGov, Medicare, MyAgedCare access
  • Online banking with the resident’s existing bank
  • Setting up large-text email for easier reading

Scam, scareware & “Microsoft warning” popups

  • Removing scareware popups and locking the system back down
  • Reversing what happened if a scammer was given remote access
  • Setting up sensible safeguards: ad-blocker, popup-blocker, scam-call screening
  • Practical conversation about what to ignore and what to forward to family

How a visit works

  1. You call, book online, or send a Free Quick Quote — tell us what’s going on. We’ll come back with an estimate up front.
  2. We confirm with the facility. Some facilities prefer a quick heads-up; we handle that.
  3. We arrive at the agreed time, sign in at reception, and come to the resident’s room.
  4. We work through the issue — usually 30–60 minutes. We show the resident anything they want shown.
  5. We leave a written summary with anything they need to remember (passwords, what we did, how to do it again).
  6. Follow-up phone help is free for the next two weeks if the same problem comes back.

Three ways to get started

Common questions from families

Can my brother and I both manage Mum’s account, or pay for her tech help?
Yes — your parent’s account supports unlimited authorised account holders. You, your siblings, your partner, a carer, anyone you nominate. Each of you gets your own login, sees the bookings, gets the same email summaries, and pays from your own card. Your parent doesn’t have to share card details with any of you, nobody has to remember who paid for what last time, and the four of you in three different states can all coordinate without phone tag. The facility’s lifestyle coordinator can also be added as a non-paying contact if you’d like them in the loop.
Can you actually come into the facility?
Yes. Our technicians are police-checked and have sign-in clearance at thousands of aged care facilities and retirement villages across Australia. Reception staff at most facilities are familiar with how outside service providers work. If the facility has any specific requirements (mask, vaccination evidence, prior approval), tell us when you book and we’ll handle it.
What if Mum has dementia or can’t remember her passwords?
Common, and not a problem. With your authorisation we can reset most passwords and set things up so the device logs in automatically. We leave a written record in large print on the bedside table, and we send the same record to you by email so the family has a copy too. If the resident gets stuck again next week, a free follow-up phone call gets them back in.
How much does it cost?
Most resident visits are 30–60 minutes and we quote on the call (or in your Quick Quote reply) before any work starts. No Fix, No Fee — if we can’t solve it, you don’t pay. Remote help by phone and screen-share is cheaper than an in-room visit.
Can I be on the call when you help my parent?
Absolutely — we encourage it for remote sessions, especially the first one. You can be on a video call or just on speakerphone. Many families find it reassuring to see how we explain things and what we recommend. For in-room visits you’re welcome to be there in person; we work around whatever is comfortable.
What if it’s a hardware fault that needs more than a visit?
If the laptop’s hard drive has died or the iPad’s screen is cracked, we’ll diagnose on the spot and quote the options. We can pick the device up from the facility, repair it offsite, and return it to the resident — so they’re not without it for long. Hardware quotes are always given before any work proceeds.
What about the facility’s own WiFi — can you fix that too?
No. The facility’s network is the facility’s responsibility — we work with whatever WiFi the facility provides, and we help the resident’s device connect to it. If the facility’s network itself is the problem (e.g. WiFi keeps dropping in your parent’s room), tell us; we can write a clear note for the facility’s IT contact explaining what we found.
Can a Home Care Package pay for this?
Sometimes — when the technology directly supports a care need (e.g. medication reminders, reducing social isolation through video calls with family). Home Care Package rules change; we recommend checking with your package provider. We provide a clear invoice that itemises the work so it’s easy to submit for reimbursement.
What hours do you operate?
In-room visits: weekdays 8am–6pm, Saturdays 9am–4pm. Remote help by phone & screen-share: 7 days a week, 8am–8pm AEST. Urgent same-day visits available across most metro areas; let us know if it’s time-sensitive when you call.
How does the Free Quick Quote work?
Fill out the Quick Quote form above with your name, phone, email, your parent’s suburb or facility, and a brief description of what’s going on. We reply by email within 1 business hour (weekdays 8am–6pm) with an estimate and the next available visit or remote-help time. No call unless you ask for one. It’s the easiest way to start if you don’t have time to be on the phone right now.
For lifestyle coordinators & facility staff

Booking tech help on behalf of a resident?

If you’re the lifestyle coordinator, activities manager, or admin staff arranging tech help for a resident, we can:

  • Book individual visits on the resident’s behalf — invoice to the family or to the resident’s account, your choice.
  • Help in-room or remotely — by phone and screen-share when that’s quicker, or a bedside visit when hands-on help is needed.
  • Keep you in the loop — add the coordinator as a non-paying contact so you can see what’s scheduled for residents in your care.

To arrange a visit for a resident, please email [email protected] or call (02) 8313 6420 and ask for the facility-bookings team.

Senior tech support services we offer

We’re the local team for aged care computer help and retirement village tech support — every visit is patient, jargon-free, and centred on the resident’s pace.

  • Senior tech support — one-on-one technicians who don’t rush, explain things three times if needed, and follow facility sign-in procedures.
  • iPad help for elderly residents — accessibility settings, larger fonts, simpler home screens, plus walkthroughs in plain English.
  • In-room computer help — we work at the resident’s bedside, no need to move the laptop or carry the iPad to the office.
  • FaceTime setup for aged care residents — connecting Mum or Dad to grandkids via FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom or Google Meet.
  • Scam popup removal for seniors — fake "Microsoft warning" pages, scam phone calls, suspicious emails: we lock things down and walk the resident through what to ignore next time.
  • WiFi help in aged care — connecting to the facility WiFi after a password change, troubleshooting weak signal in distant rooms.
  • Printer setup & iPad-to-printer pairing — useful for residents who still print photos of grandkids.
  • Apple ID, password resets & email accounts — Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail; we recover accounts and write down the new password in big print.
  • Computer help for aged care residents with cognitive decline or dementia — we don’t ask the resident to troubleshoot or remember anything; we do the work and email the family a summary.
