Why PTM7950 instead of regular thermal paste?
PTM7950 is a phase-change pad — solid at room temperature, melts to a thin film at operating temperature. Three advantages over regular paste: (1) no pump-out (doesn’t squeeze out of the joint over years), (2) better thermal conductivity than most consumer paste (8.5 W/mK vs MX-4’s 8.5 — equal — but pump-out resistance is the win), (3) consistent thickness — laptops slap-on a wide range of paste thicknesses at factory; PTM gives consistent baseline.
What’s included in the $280 thermal service
(1) Full disassembly, (2) clean off old CPU + GPU paste with 99% IPA + brushes, (3) clean heat-exchanger fins with compressed air + brushes (you’d be amazed at what comes out), (4) fresh VRAM thermal pads (Thermalright 12.8 W/mK), (5) apply PTM7950 to CPU + GPU dies, (6) reassemble with fresh adhesive on the heat-sink mount, (7) stress-test under Cinebench R23 + Furmark for 30 minutes, (8) report before/after temperatures.
Liquid-metal option (Area-51m R2 / m18 R2 top-spec)
Some customers want Conductonaut liquid metal instead of PTM7950 for max thermal performance. We do it carefully (LM can short-circuit if it migrates onto SMDs). $380-$420 flat. We strongly recommend PTM7950 for most users — easier to maintain long-term.
Aurora desktop thermal service

m-series RTX 30/40: 15-25°C drop on GPU under sustained load. m18 R2 with 4090: 20-30°C drop typical. x-series (vapor chamber): 10-15°C drop (vapor chamber is the limit, not just paste).
When repaste isn’t enough
If thermal-paste is up to spec but you’re still throttling, the heat-exchanger may be physically clogged (always cleaned in our service), a fan may have bearing wear (we test during the job), or — on x-series — the vapor chamber itself may have failed. We diagnose during the job and quote any additional work.
