Mail-In Data Recovery — Send Your Device In From Anywhere in Australia

Last Updated:

No lab in your town? No drive worth a long drive? Post it to us instead. From any suburb in Australia you can send us a failed hard drive, dead phone, water-damaged laptop or formatted memory card — and you will see a full list of the files we can recover, with a fixed price, before you pay for the recovery. Start with a free phone assessment; if the computer still runs, we can often recover deleted files and lost emails by a secure remote session with no postage at all.

How mail-in recovery works

  1. Tell us what happened. Use the form below, or call for a free phone assessment. Tell us the device, what went wrong, and which files matter most.
  2. Pay the inspection fee. It depends on the device and how fast you need it (see the table below). This covers the careful lab inspection of your device.
  3. Print the label we email you. We send an Australia Post label to print plus our lab address. Pack the device safely and lodge it at your nearest Australia Post outlet — you pay the postage at the counter, and the parcel is tracked the whole way.
  4. See your files before you pay for recovery. Once it arrives we inspect it and email you a full list of the files we can recover, with a fixed price. You only pay for the recovery if you are happy with what is on that list.
  5. Get your data back. We return it on a new drive, by secure download, or to your cloud — and post your device back to you.

Inspection fees

The phone assessment and quote are free. The inspection fee covers the lab assessment and depends on the device and the turnaround you choose:

DeviceStandard
(15–20 working days)
Priority
(10–15 days)
Urgent
(5–10 days)
Hard drive (single)$189$389$589
USB stick, SD/camera card, mobile phone$139$239$339
Tape drive / RAID array (per drive)$189$589

We confirm the exact inspection fee with you before you send anything in. The recovery price is quoted separately, with your file list, and only paid if you go ahead.

How to pack it safely

  • Wrap the device in its original padding or in bubble wrap — snug, with no loose movement in the box.
  • Use a rigid box, not a soft satchel, especially for hard drives.
  • Do not include chargers or accessories unless we ask — just the device and any part needed to read it.
  • If a drive is clicking or was dropped, do not power it on again to test it — pack it and send it.
  • Pop a note in with your name and phone number so we can match it to your job straight away.

Why people trust us with the post-in jobs

A family-owned Australian company since 2001, with a Class 100 cleanroom for the difficult physical recoveries, write-protected handling so your original data is never altered, and one simple promise: you see a full list of recoverable files, with a fixed price, before you pay for the recovery.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to post a failing drive?

Yes, when it is packed well: original padding or bubble wrap, a rigid box, and no loose movement. We email packing instructions with your Australia Post label, and the parcel is tracked the whole way.

How much does the inspection cost?

It depends on the device and how fast you need it — see the table above (from $139). The phone assessment and quote are free. We confirm the exact inspection fee with you before you send anything in.

What if you cannot recover my files?

After the inspection we send you a full list of exactly what is recoverable, with a fixed price. If that list does not have what you need on it, you simply do not go ahead — you only pay for a recovery once you have seen what is on it.

How long does it take?

Standard turnaround is 15 to 20 working days after your device arrives, with priority (10 to 15) and urgent (5 to 10) options. Simple jobs often come back sooner.

Do I have to pay postage?

You pay the postage at the Australia Post counter when you lodge the parcel — we provide the label and our address. We post your device and data back to you afterwards.

Can you just do it remotely instead?

Often, yes — if the computer still starts. Deleted files, missing folders and lost emails can be recovered over a secure remote session with no postage at all. Failing hardware (a clicking or undetected drive) needs to come to the lab.
