Change your Wi-Fi password – step by step
- Connect a device to the router (Wi-Fi or cable).
- Open a browser and go to your router’s admin address (see the table below).
- Log in with the admin username/password (on the router’s sticker, not the Wi-Fi password).
- Open Wireless / Wi-Fi settings.
- Enter a new password (WPA2/WPA3) and apply it to both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
- Save – your devices will drop off and need the new password to reconnect.
Admin address by brand
| Brand | Login address |
|---|---|
| TP-Link | tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1 (or the Tether app) |
| ASUS | router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1 (or the ASUS Router app) |
| Netgear | routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 (or the Nighthawk app) |
| Telstra / Optus / TPG modems | 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (or the provider app) |
| eero / Nest WiFi | App only (eero app / Google Home) |
Tip: keep the same password on both bands so devices roam smoothly, and write it somewhere safe before you change it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I change my Wi-Fi password?
Log in to your router at its admin address (e.g. tplinkwifi.net, router.asus.com, routerlogin.net or 192.168.0.1/192.168.1.1), open Wireless settings, set a new password on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and save.
What’s the difference between the admin password and the Wi-Fi password?
The admin password logs you in to the router’s settings; the Wi-Fi password is what devices use to join the network. You need the admin one to change the Wi-Fi one.
Why won’t my devices reconnect after changing the Wi-Fi password?
They’re still trying the old password – ‘forget’ the network on each device and rejoin with the new one. We can do this across all your devices if needed.
Should the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz have the same password?
Usually yes – the same name and password on both bands lets devices roam to the best signal automatically.
I’ve forgotten my router admin password – what now?
Use the password on the router’s sticker, or factory-reset the router (hold reset ~10s) which restores defaults but clears your settings. We can recover access without losing your connection where possible.
Can you change my Wi-Fi password for me?
Yes – we can do it remotely in minutes, set a strong password, and reconnect your devices, on any router or ISP modem.
