Dell XPS Thunderbolt & USB-C Repair
Last Updated:
Most Dell XPS laptops since 2018 use Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports for charging AND data — usually two TB4 ports, sometimes a USB-A and a microSD slot. When a port wears, charging gets flaky or external GPU enclosures stop being recognised. We replace ports.
Common Issues & How We Fix Them
Port tongue damaged
Off-angle cable insertion bends the central USB-C tongue. Replacement port flex: $320-$420 fitted.
Won’t negotiate Thunderbolt 4 speeds
Driver state or port-controller fault. Driver re-flash free; hardware replacement $380-$520.
Jiggle to charge
Pin wear — same fix as tongue damage. Port flex replacement.
Charging IC failure (board-level)
If ports test fine but laptop won’t accept power, the charging IC on the mainboard may have failed. Board-level repair: $450-$680.
USB-A port failure (XPS 15/17)
Separate from USB-C. Replacement: $280-$380.
