The Metabox Prime is the flagship gaming line — Clevo NP-series and the legendary X170 chassis. The X170 was Clevo’s last desktop-replacement laptop with a SOCKETED LGA1200 CPU (you could swap from i5 to i9 with a screwdriver and steady hand) plus full-power desktop NVIDIA GPU. NP50PNJ / NP70PNJ / PD50PNN are the refreshed mid-flagship chassis. We service all of them.

Common Issues & How We Fix Them
X170 socketed CPU upgrade service
Unique to the X170 line — actual desktop LGA1200 CPU socket. Common upgrade path: i5 / i7 → i9-10900K or i9-11900K. Includes full thermal repaste + new VRM pads. $180 labour + CPU cost.
X170 cooling capacity
The X170 has 4× 8mm heat pipes + dual blower fans + huge heat exchangers. Cooling is excellent when paste is fresh — degrades faster than NH-class due to higher TDP (over 100W CPU + 165W GPU sustained).
X170 SODIMM RAM — quad-channel
The X170 supports 4× SODIMM slots (most laptops 2). 128GB DDR4 configs common. We do RAM upgrades + XMP validation.
NP50/NP70 thermal repaste
Same Clevo factory-paste issue. PTM7950 re-paste $280 flat.
NP50/NP70 fan replacement
Dual-fan, NP-specific part numbers. $180-$280 per fan fitted.
Mechanical keyboard on X170
X170 was one of very few laptops with a true mechanical (Cherry MX Brown) keyboard. Individual switch replacement possible if needed.
PD50PNN / PD70PNN (2023 refresh)
Refined cooling vs NP-series predecessor. Less paste-degradation reported. Still benefits from preventive repaste at 24 months.
