Slow Computer Fix — Tune-Up + Cleanup Specialist

Last Updated:

A slow computer is usually one of five things: (1) bloatware + startup overload (too many apps autostarting), (2) malware / cryptominer (silent CPU drain), (3) failing SSD or HDD (slow disk = slow system), (4) RAM exhaustion (system swapping to disk), or (5) thermal throttle (CPU/GPU slowed by overheating). Diagnosis tells us which.

Our process: run a baseline benchmark (CrystalDiskMark, CPU-Z, Task Manager / Activity Monitor), identify the bottleneck, then target the fix. Most slow-computer cases resolve in $180-$320 of work — startup cleanup + malware scan + browser hardening. Hardware upgrades (SSD swap, RAM bump) are $280-$680 typical.

Dusty or overheating, not just slow? Sometimes a slow or struggling computer is simply a dirty one. If the fans are loud or it runs hot, our Computer Cleaning service clears the internal dust and refreshes the cooling.

Common Issues & How We Fix Them

Slow startup and shutdown

A computer that crawls on start usually has too many startup apps, a full disk or a failing hard drive. We find the real cause rather than guessing.

Programs and web pages lag

Sluggish apps and browsing often come down to low memory or a tired hard drive — a RAM or SSD upgrade is frequently the fix.

Freezes and not-responding

Frequent freezes can be storage, memory or overheating. We run diagnostics to pinpoint it.

Slowed down after an update

If your machine slowed after an update, we identify whether it is drivers, background tasks or hardware and put it right.

Old hard drive bottleneck

An ageing spinning drive is the single biggest cause of a slow computer — moving to an SSD is the upgrade people notice most.

Every repair is covered by our no-fix-no-fee policy and a 90-day warranty, with onsite, workshop and remote options to suit your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cost to speed up a slow computer?

Software tune-up only (startup + malware + browser): $180-$320. SSD upgrade (HDD → SSD): $280-$580 depending on capacity. RAM upgrade: $180-$380 depending on capacity + DDR generation.

Will reinstalling Windows / macOS speed it up?

Sometimes — depends on the root cause. If the slowdown is bloat-accumulated software, reinstall helps for a few months then slows down again. If it’s hardware (failing drive, low RAM), reinstall does nothing. We diagnose first, then recommend.

Is RAM upgrade worth it?

If your laptop has 8GB or less and you do real work (multiple browser tabs, Office, Zoom, etc.), yes — bumping to 16GB is one of the highest-impact upgrades. Most laptops 2019+ have soldered RAM and can’t be upgraded; those need a different fix path.

SSD vs HDD speed difference?

Massive. A laptop with HDD-only boots in 2-3 minutes; with SSD it boots in 15-20 seconds. App launches go from 5-15 seconds to instant. SSD upgrade is the single best speed boost for laptops 2018 and earlier.

Mac running slow — same fixes?

Many — startup item cleanup, malware scan, browser hardening apply equally. M-series Macs can’t have RAM upgraded (unified memory in SoC). Older Intel iMacs can have SSD + RAM upgrades; modern Apple Silicon can’t.

Will the speed-up last?

Software fixes: 6-12 months before bloat accumulates again (we offer a 6-month tune-up at half-price). Hardware fixes: permanent.
