The ROG Zephyrus M16 was the Intel-equivalent to the AMD G14/G16 — premium thin 16″ gaming. ASUS discontinued the M-suffix Zephyrus in 2024 in favour of consolidating to Zephyrus G16 (which now offers both AMD and Intel variants). M16 units are still in active service and we repair them.

Symptom: Trackpad lift, chassis bulge and reduced runtime on 2021-2023 M16 models after repeated fast-charge cycles
How we fix it: Power down, disconnect battery connector, remove swollen 90 Wh cell, fit new OEM-spec 90 Wh pack and recalibrate BMS via ASUS diagnostics.

Symptom: Bright spots or colour shift on the 165 Hz QHD+ mini-LED screen fitted to high-spec GU604 units
How we fix it: Order special-order 16-inch 2560×1600 mini-LED panel, transfer Wi-Fi antenna and webcam assembly, then perform full white-balance calibration post-install.

Hinge tension loss on aluminium chassis
Symptom: Screen wobble or lid that will not stay open at 110-120 degrees on daily open-close cycles
How we fix it: Remove hinge covers, tighten or replace the two M2.5 hinge screws per side and apply thread-locker; replace hinge set if pivot pins are worn.

MUX switch failure on RTX 40-series
Symptom: No display output on external monitors when MUX is set to discrete GPU on GU604 models
How we fix it: Reflash latest BIOS, reseat the MUX control line ribbon, or replace the MUX IC on the daughterboard if firmware does not restore switching.

Is the M16 worth fixing now that ASUS discontinued the line?
Yes, the M16 still carries a strong RTX 3070 or 4070 GPU and the 16-inch 165 Hz mini-LED option remains competitive. ASUS continues to supply parts for another 1-2 years, so a targeted repair such as battery or thermal service is usually cheaper than replacing the entire machine.
Should I upgrade from M16 to new G16?
The performance difference between a well-specced M16 and the current G16 is marginal for most users. Unless you specifically need the newer MUX improvements or AMD option, keeping the M16 and addressing its known issues is often the more cost-effective route.
How long does a PTM7950 re-paste take and will it void warranty?
The service takes one to two days in workshop. Because ASUS no longer offers factory warranty on discontinued M16 units, our 90-day parts and labour warranty applies instead.
Can you repair the AniMe Matrix display if it stops working?
We replace the dedicated flex cable between the lid controller and motherboard. Most AniMe faults are cable related rather than LED failure, so the repair restores full animation without replacing the entire lid assembly.
What is the typical cost to replace a swollen battery on the GU603?
A genuine 90 Wh cell plus fitting and BMS recalibration ranges from $480 to $580. Turnaround is usually one business day once the part arrives from our supplier.
Do you offer onsite service for the Zephyrus M16 in regional areas?
