About the iiNet TG-789 / BudiiLite
The Technicolor TG-789 is a dual-band Wi-Fi modem-router with a built-in VDSL/ADSL modem and Gigabit LAN ports. On most iiNet services it arrives pre-configured, so for a standard connection it’s largely plug-and-play – but FTTC and BYO setups sometimes need the connection details re-entered.
Setting up the iiNet TG-789 – step by step
- For FTTN/ADSL, run the grey DSL cable from the modem’s DSL port to the phone wall socket. For FTTC, connect to the NBN connection device; for FTTP, use the WAN/Internet port to the NBN box.
- Plug in the power and switch on – allow a few minutes for it to start and sync.
- Wait for the Broadband/DSL light to go solid, then the Internet light solid green – that means you’re online.
- If it doesn’t connect, log in at 192.168.1.1 and check the broadband username/password (your iiNet connection details).
- Join Wi-Fi using the network name and password on the sticker on the back of the modem.

To change settings, log in at 192.168.1.1 with username admin and the password on the back-label sticker (each TG-789 has a unique password).

Frequently asked questions
How do I set up the iiNet TG-789 modem?
Connect the DSL cable to the phone socket (or the WAN port to the NBN box for FTTP), power on, wait for the Broadband and Internet lights to go solid green, then join Wi-Fi using the details on the back sticker. It’s usually pre-configured for iiNet.
What is the login for the iiNet TG-789?
Browse to 192.168.1.1 and log in with username admin and the password printed on the sticker on the back of the modem – each unit has a unique password.
What does a red internet light mean on the iiNet modem?
A red Internet light means no connection – often a line-sync issue or the wrong broadband username/password. Restart it; if it stays red, the line or the connection details need checking.
My iiNet modem won’t connect after a move – can you help?
Yes – we re-enter your iiNet connection details, confirm the right NBN port and technology type, and get you back online onsite or remotely.
Is the BudiiLite the same as the TG-789?
Yes – BudiiLite is iiNet’s name for the Technicolor TG-789 gateway.
Can you set up Wi-Fi and improve coverage?
Yes – we set the network name and password, tune channels and placement, and add mesh Wi-Fi where needed for whole-home coverage.
