Common Issues & How We Fix Them
Cracked Retina 5K / 4K display
Bonded glass + LCD. Replacement requires careful re-bond. 21.5″ 4K: $850-$1,100 fitted. 27″ 5K: $1,400-$1,800 fitted. 24″ M-series: $950-$1,300 fitted.
Fusion Drive failure
The 27″ 5K Intel iMac used Apple’s “Fusion Drive” — small SSD + spinning HDD presented as one volume. SSD wears, HDD ages, the pairing fails. We split the Fusion Drive into discrete SSD + (optional) HDD, OR upgrade to pure NVMe. $380-$580 fitted plus drive cost.
Power supply failure
iMac PSU board is a known failure mode at 5-7 years. Replacement PSU board: $280-$420 fitted onsite or workshop.
Fan noise / dust
iMac fans run constant — dust accumulates over years. Deep clean: $180-$240 onsite.
HDD upgrade to SSD (any Intel iMac)
The single biggest performance upgrade for any pre-2019 iMac. SSD swap with full clone: $280-$420 + SSD cost. 5x faster boot, dramatically smoother daily use.
GPU failure (iMac 27″ 5K + iMac Pro)
Discrete AMD Radeon Pro GPUs in 27″ 5K develop BGA fatigue. Reflow / reball: $480-$880.

How much does it cost to replace a cracked screen on a 27-inch iMac?
A 27-inch 5K Retina panel replacement costs $1,400-$1,800 fitted. We remove the bonded glass, fit a new OEM-spec panel, re-bond under vacuum and test colour accuracy before returning the machine.
Can you fix a Fusion Drive that's failing on my 2019 iMac?
Yes. We clone your data, split or replace the Fusion assembly with a single NVMe drive, then reinstall macOS. The job usually takes a few hours and starts from $380 plus the cost of the new drive.
Do you come to my home or office for iMac repairs in Australia?
We attend onsite across most capital cities and larger regional centres. If the repair needs a clean-room bench we collect the iMac, complete the work in our workshop and return it within two to three days.
Is it worth repairing an older 21.5-inch 2017 iMac or should I buy new?
A screen or SSD upgrade on the 2017-2019 21.5-inch models costs $850-$1,100 or $320-$480 respectively. If the rest of the machine is in good condition these repairs often extend useful life by three to four years at a fraction of a new iMac price.
What warranty do you give on iMac repairs?
Every repair carries a 90-day warranty covering both parts and labour. If the same fault reappears within that period we return onsite or collect the machine at no extra charge.
