MacBook Liquid Damage Repair
Last Updated:
Spilled water, coffee, wine or energy drink on your MacBook? Apple WILL NOT service liquid-damaged Macs — they refuse. We do. Power off immediately, don’t try to dry it yourself, don’t put it in rice, bring it in within 24 hours. About 60% of liquid-damaged MacBooks we receive within that window are fully recoverable.
Common Issues & How We Fix Them
STOP — don’t power on
Every second of power across a wet board accelerates short damage. Hold power button for 10+ seconds.
Don’t put it in rice
Rice does nothing for sealed MacBook chassis. Bring it in.
Why Apple refuses liquid-damaged Macs
Apple’s policy treats liquid-damaged devices as customer-induced damage outside warranty. They’ll quote flat-rate replacement (effectively a new device). We do actual repair.
Ultrasonic board clean
Workshop: full disassembly, logic board ultrasonic bath in 99% IPA at 40°C. Displaces water + contamination.
Component-level repair
Corroded ICs replaced: SMC, power management, charging IC, audio codec common casualties.
Sugary spills (energy drinks, soft drink)
Worse than water — sugar caramelises onto traces. Enzymatic clean + extra workshop time.
Cost vs Apple replacement
Apple’s flat-rate replacement: $1,500-$3,500 depending on model. Our liquid-damage repair: $480-$1,400 depending on damage.
Salt-water damage (beach drops)
Worst-case scenario — salt is highly conductive and corrosive. 24-hour window matters even more. Bring it immediately.
Sensible recovery
Within 24 hours: ~60% full recovery. 24-72 hours: ~40%. After a week: ~20%. Speed matters.
Our Repair Process

MacBook Liquid Damage Repair — your questions answered
How long do I have to bring in my MacBook after a spill?
The first 24 hours give the best chance of recovery. After that corrosion spreads quickly, especially with coffee or energy drinks. We see full recovery rates drop from around 60 percent within the first day to 40 percent by 72 hours.
Will putting my MacBook in rice fix liquid damage?
Rice does nothing for the sealed chassis of a modern MacBook. Moisture stays trapped against the logic board and can cause more corrosion. Bring the machine in for proper ultrasonic cleaning instead.
Why won't Apple repair my liquid-damaged MacBook?
Apple treats liquid damage as customer-induced and outside warranty, usually quoting a flat-rate replacement that can cost $1,500 to $3,500. We perform actual component-level repairs on the existing board.
What is the no-fix-no-fee policy for diagnostics?
We only charge if we locate and confirm the fault. If the board is beyond economical repair we tell you upfront and you pay nothing for the diagnostic work.
How long does a typical MacBook liquid damage repair take?
Most jobs are completed in one to three working days once we receive the machine. Complex board repairs involving multiple IC replacements can extend to three days.
Is the 90-day warranty on parts and labour?
Yes. Every liquid damage repair carries a 90-day warranty covering both parts and labour. If the same fault returns within that period we fix it at no extra charge.
