M4-specific service notes: the SSD storage chips are now part of the SoC package — meaning physical storage failure means SoC-level work, not a simple SSD swap. Battery service is well-defined (Apple-spec replacement, $480-$620 fitted). MagSafe 3 port wear is rare but happens. Logic-board faults are recoverable via DFU mode + chip-off if needed. Most M4 MacBooks are still in Apple’s 12-month warranty — claim through Apple first if eligible.

Symptom: Device boots to question mark folder or shows 'no bootable device' after no prior liquid or drop damage
How we fix it: Chip-off reball of the integrated NAND on the M4 package using hot-air and BGA station, followed by DFU restore via Apple Configurator.

How we fix it: Remove bottom case, disconnect flex, fit new 70 Wh or 100 Wh Apple-spec battery and run System Diagnostics to clear the BMS flag.

Symptom: Vertical bright lines or half-screen dimming on the Liquid Retina XDR display
How we fix it: Replace entire 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR assembly; the mini-LED array is bonded to the panel and cannot be reworked separately.

Symptom: Screen flicker or loss of image when lid angle changes, especially on 16-inch M4 Pro/Max units
How we fix it: Replace the full display assembly including the embedded hinge cable harness; the cable is not serviceable separately.

Symptom: One or more right-side ports show 'device not recognised' while left-side ports and MagSafe still function
How we fix it: Board-level replacement of the USB4 retimer IC nearest the affected port cluster using hot-air and underfill.

How much does a MacBook Pro M4 repair cost?
Battery service on a 14-inch M4 is typically $480-$620 fitted while a 16-inch unit ranges $520-$680. Display replacement starts at $1350 for the 14-inch model. MagSafe 3 port work is $290-$380. All prices are indicative and exclude any board-level work.
Can you replace the SSD in a MacBook Pro M4?
The M4 series solders the NAND directly into the SoC package, so physical storage failure requires chip-off reballing rather than a simple swap. We can attempt recovery on a no-fix-no-fee basis, but success is not guaranteed and turnaround is longer.
Is my MacBook Pro M4 still under warranty?
Most units purchased since October 2024 remain within Apple's standard 12-month warranty. If you have AppleCare+ it extends coverage. We recommend checking your serial number on Apple's site first; if ineligible we can still perform the same repairs with a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
How long does a MacBook Pro M4 battery replacement take?
In our workshop a battery swap on either the 14-inch or 16-inch M4 is usually completed same day. You can drop the machine off in the morning and collect it that afternoon once System Diagnostics clears the battery flag.
