Intel MacBook Pro thermal recovery
Factory paste dried out at 18-24 months. PTM7950 re-paste + heat-exchanger clean. Significant temperature improvement on 2016-2020 Intel Pros.
M3 Max thermal headroom
Recovery is more modest because M-series is already efficient — but persistent throttling on M3 Max Pro benefits from re-paste.
M1, M2, M2 Pro/Max — usually unnecessary
These chassis have plenty of thermal headroom out of factory. Re-paste rarely needed unless cooling has been compromised.
MacBook Air — fanless, can’t repaste
Air’s passive cooling depends on the chassis itself as a heatsink. No paste service applicable.

How much temperature drop can I expect from a PTM7950 repaste on my M3 Max MacBook Pro?
Most M3 Max 14-inch and 16-inch units see 10-18 °C lower sustained die temperatures under load after PTM7950 replacement. Gains are smaller than Intel models because Apple’s vapour chamber is already efficient, yet throttling during long renders or compiles is often eliminated.
Is a thermal repaste worth doing on an M1 or M2 MacBook Pro?
M1 and M2 models run cool from the factory and rarely benefit from repasting unless dust has blocked the heat exchanger or a previous repair damaged the original paste. We recommend a diagnostic first before booking the $280 service.
Can you do the thermal repaste at my home or office in Sydney?
Yes, our technicians carry the full PTM7950 kit and can complete the job onsite in most Sydney metro postcodes. Allow 3-4 hours door-to-door; the same 90-day warranty applies as workshop repairs.
Will repasting void my AppleCare or remaining warranty?
Apple treats any internal work as user modification, so remaining AppleCare is voided. Our own 90-day parts-and-labour warranty still covers the PTM7950 pad and reassembly quality.
How long does the MacBook stay in the workshop for a thermal repaste?
