Microsoft Surface Pro Repairs — Pro 4 through Pro 11
Last Updated:
The Surface Pro line is Microsoft’s flagship 2-in-1 tablet PC, and we’ve been repairing every generation since the Pro 3 launched in 2014. From Pro 4’s notorious flickergate, through the Pro 7’s USB-C edge-case failures, all the way to the brand-new Pro 11 with its ARM-based Snapdragon X chipset — our workshop has seen them all, and we keep the diagnostic gear, screen stock and pentalobe drivers needed to fix them.
Surface Pro repairs are not the same as repairing a regular laptop. The glass is bonded to the chassis with industrial adhesive, the battery is glued in place, storage is soldered on most generations, and one wrong move on the digitiser flex cable can write off a $2,000+ device. Bring it to a Microsoft-authorised repair shop — or call us, and we’ll come to you across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin and the surrounding regions.

Common Issues & How We Fix Them
Cracked or dead screen
The Surface Pro’s glass-on-display assembly is fully bonded — there’s no separate digitiser. A drop that cracks the glass usually destroys the LCD underneath, requiring a full assembly swap. We carry stock for Pro 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 in workshop. Pro 10 and Pro 11 assemblies are special-order (3-5 day turnaround). Same-day on the older models in most metro postcodes.
Battery swell & rapid drain
Pro 4, 5 and 6 batteries reach the swell-and-pop stage at the 4-6 year mark. A swollen battery will push the screen off the chassis — if you see a gap forming around the bezel, stop using the device and bring it in. We image storage before opening (the screen-removal process can cock the mainboard if the battery is dangerously distended) and replace with a genuine Microsoft cell or a tested OEM-grade equivalent.
Charging port / Surface Connect
Pro 4 through Pro 9 use the proprietary magnetic Surface Connect port. The pins wear flat, the magnet weakens, and the cable starts dropping the charge handshake. Pro 8, 9, 10 and 11 added USB-C charging as an alternative; we can also replace the USB-C port flex when it fails. Pro 11 with Snapdragon X has been very reliable on this front but we’ve seen edge cases.
Type Cover / Signature Keyboard not detected
The Surface Type Cover connects via a 5-pin pogo connector at the chassis bottom edge. Bent pins, lint contamination and cracked solder joints under the connector all cause “keyboard not detected” errors. We clean, re-flow or replace the connector as needed. Bring the cover with you — about 30% of the time it’s actually the cover that’s faulty, not the tablet.
Kickstand looseness
Pro 4, 5, 6 and 7 kickstand hinges wear out — the spring tension drops, the stand won’t hold its angle. We can re-tension or replace the hinge cluster. About 90 minutes in the workshop.
Wi-Fi / Bluetooth dropouts
Almost always a Windows driver or radio antenna issue on Pros 4-7, board-level on Pros 8-11. We diagnose with both Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 test rigs and have a known-good antenna assembly for cross-checking.

Microsoft Surface Pro Repairs — your questions answered
How much does a Microsoft Surface Pro screen repair cost in Australia?
Screen replacement on a Surface Pro 7 or 8 typically ranges from $380 to $520 depending on the exact model and whether the digitiser is included. We image any internal storage before opening the device and provide a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
Can you fix a Surface Pro that won't charge properly?
Yes. Common causes include worn Surface Connect ports or failed USB-C receptacles on the Pro 7 and later. Our technicians perform board-level soldering when required and test the device under load before return.
Is it worth repairing a Surface Pro 4 with Flickergate?
Many Pro 4 units remain viable after the display flex is replaced. We assess heat-related damage first and only proceed if the mainboard shows no corrosion or prior liquid exposure.
Do you offer onsite Surface Pro repairs across Australian capital cities?
Our technicians travel to homes and offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Darwin. Onsite visits are booked the same day when parts are in stock, otherwise the device is collected for workshop repair.
What happens if my Surface Pro battery has swollen and lifted the screen?
We open the chassis with controlled heat, remove the swollen cell and install a new Microsoft-grade battery. Pressure testing confirms the screen sits flat again before the device leaves the workshop.
