Microsoft Surface Screen Repair — Pro, Laptop, Book, Studio & Go
Last Updated:
Surface screens are bonded glass-on-LCD (or glass-on-OLED for some Pro models) assemblies. There’s no separate digitiser layer to replace — when the glass cracks, the touch and LCD usually go too, and the whole assembly is the part. That makes Surface screen repair more expensive than a typical phone-screen swap, but no different in concept: open the chassis, debond the failed assembly, fit a tested replacement, re-bond.
We stock replacement assemblies for the popular generations (Pro 5/6/7/8/9, Laptop 1-5, Book 1-3, Go 1-3) and special-order for the newer ones. Same- or next-day in metro for stocked models; 3-5 business days for special orders. Free quote with no obligation.

Common Issues & How We Fix Them
Is your Surface screen worth replacing?
Rule of thumb: if the device is less than 4 years old and the only fault is the screen, replace. If it’s 5+ years old, consider whether there’s also battery wear, charging-port wear, or storage-life concerns — bundling repairs often makes sense.
Cracked glass with display still working
The glass and LCD/OLED are bonded — there’s no “just replace the glass” option. The whole assembly is the part. We cannot debond and replace glass-only at a price that beats the full assembly.
Display works but touch is dead
The digitiser layer is part of the bonded assembly. If touch is dead but display works, the digitiser controller may have failed — sometimes board-side, sometimes assembly-side. We diagnose to differentiate.
Black screen / no display but device powers on
If the device wakes (you hear the chime, see the keyboard backlight, hear a fan) but the screen stays black — that’s often a display cable disconnect or a failed display power IC. Either is fixable without a screen replacement.
Backlight bleed / dead pixels
Microsoft’s pixel and backlight policy is strict — if you have more than 3 dead pixels OR backlight bleed exceeding their threshold, the assembly qualifies for warranty replacement. Out of warranty, we replace at full cost or live with it.
Flickering / screen flash
Pro 4’s notorious “flickergate” was a known assembly fault — Microsoft offered free replacement for affected units up to a date in 2018. Out of that window, we replace at full cost. For newer models, flickering is rarer and usually points to a driver or display cable issue.

Microsoft Surface Screen Repair — your questions answered
How much does it cost to replace a cracked Surface Pro screen?
Replacement prices for bonded Surface Pro assemblies range from $450 for a Pro 7 to $1,150 for a Pro 9 OLED model. The figure covers the tested panel, adhesive, labour and 90-day warranty. We provide a free no-obligation quote after a quick visual inspection.
Can you replace just the glass on my Surface or do I need the whole screen?
Microsoft bonds the glass directly to the LCD or OLED layer, so the complete assembly must be replaced. We cannot separate the glass layer without destroying the display. All our Surface screen repairs therefore include a new bonded unit.
How long will my Surface be in the workshop for a screen repair?
Most stocked models such as the Pro 8 or Laptop 4 are completed same or next business day in metro areas. Newer or less common models may take 3-5 business days while we source the assembly. Turnaround is confirmed once we see the exact model.
Is it worth fixing the screen on an older Surface Pro 4 or 5?
If the device is otherwise in good condition and under four years old, a screen replacement is usually economical. On five-year-old units we check battery health and charging-port wear first so you can decide whether to bundle repairs.
Do you use genuine Microsoft Surface screens or aftermarket panels?
We fit genuine-grade bonded assemblies sourced through authorised channels for the popular Pro, Laptop and Book generations. Every panel is tested for touch, brightness and colour before fitting and carries our 90-day warranty.
