Apple T2 / Activation Lock Unlock (Proof of Ownership)
Last Updated:
Apple’s T2 security chip (2018-2020 Intel Macs) and the Apple Silicon Secure Enclave (M-series 2020+) implement Activation Lock — when a Mac is signed in to an Apple ID and Find My is enabled, it’s tied to that account. After a sale, factory reset, or if you’ve forgotten Apple ID credentials, the Mac can lock you out.
We facilitate Apple’s OFFICIAL Activation Lock removal process. Proof of ownership is mandatory — original purchase receipt with serial number, or original Apple ID with verified email access. Without those, removal is not possible (by design — this protects against theft). With them, removal typically takes 3-7 days through Apple’s official MDM/IMEI unlock channel.
Common Issues & How We Fix Them
What is Activation Lock?
Apple’s anti-theft security. When Find My is enabled, the Mac is cryptographically tied to your Apple ID. Restoring or selling without removing the lock first locks the next user out.
T2 chip vs M-series Secure Enclave
Functionally similar — both prevent unauthorised firmware modification and enforce Activation Lock. T2 = 2018-2020 Intel Macs. M-series = 2020+ all-Apple-Silicon. Same lock removal process.
Proof of ownership required
One of: (1) original purchase receipt with serial number matching the Mac, (2) original Apple ID credentials with verified email access, (3) Apple Business Manager / Apple School Manager documentation for fleet devices.
What we CAN do
Submit Activation Lock removal request via Apple’s official channel using your proof of ownership. Document the request for your records. Service the Mac after unlock.
What we CANNOT do
Bypass Activation Lock without proof of ownership. Hack, decrypt, or reverse-engineer the T2 / Secure Enclave. Anyone claiming otherwise is scamming you or selling stolen-goods services — neither legal nor reliable.
Bought a used Mac that’s still locked?
Contact the seller — they need to remove the lock via their Apple ID. Without them, you have an expensive paperweight.
Forgotten Apple ID password but you own the Mac?
Apple’s iforgot.apple.com self-service recovery is the first step. We can help walk through the process. If recovery fails, Apple’s account-recovery team can help with proof of identity.
Fee + timeline
Our facilitation fee: $180-$280 depending on complexity. Apple’s processing: 3-7 business days typically.
MDM-locked corporate Macs
If the Mac is enrolled in Apple Business Manager / Apple School Manager / a third-party MDM, the lock is at the organisation level — not Activation Lock. The IT admin must release the enrolment. We can help diagnose which lock you’re dealing with.
