Microsoft Surface Hub Repairs — Hub 2S & Hub 3 (Enterprise Collaboration)

Last Updated:

The Surface Hub is Microsoft’s enterprise digital whiteboard — 50-inch or 85-inch touch screen, built-in 4K cameras, far-field mic array, and Teams Rooms collaboration. Hub 2S (2019) and Hub 3 (2023) are the current generations; we repair both. This is B2B-only work — these devices are typically wall-mounted in boardrooms, classrooms and clinical environments, and onsite service is the norm.

The most common Hub faults: touch input failure (an entire row of digitiser dies), audio loop / echo on Teams calls, camera not initialising, and the ARM compute cartridge needing replacement on Hub 3.

Common Issues & How We Fix Them

Touch input dead row / column

The PixelSense touch layer is segmented. A dead row or column usually indicates one digitiser controller has failed. We can replace the controller without removing the panel — about 4 hours onsite, depending on cable routing.

Camera not initialising on Teams

The integrated 4K camera communicates over an internal USB bus. Disconnects are usually firmware-level, occasionally cable. We have the diagnostic tools to differentiate and the cable parts for swap.

Audio echo / loop during meetings

The far-field mic array depends on a clean acoustic-cancellation profile. Loops often come from a mismatched mic firmware after a Teams update. We re-flash the audio firmware onsite.

ARM compute cartridge replacement (Hub 3)

Hub 3 introduced a replaceable ARM compute cartridge — if your Hub 3’s compute fails, the cartridge can be swapped onsite in about 30 minutes. We carry exchange stock for SLA customers.

Wall mount / structural service

Surface Hub 2S (50″) is 28 kg, the 85″ is 86 kg. Mount inspection, re-torque and reposition are part of our annual SLA service for enterprise customers.

Our Repair Process

  1. Free phone consultation — most Hub issues we can scope from a 10-minute call.
  2. Onsite diagnostic — your IT team doesn’t need to schlep an 86 kg display anywhere; we come to the boardroom.
  3. Repair — same-day on most faults if parts are in our service vans; otherwise 2-4 business days for special order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you service Surface Hub onsite?

Always onsite — these devices don’t move. We come to your boardroom, classroom or clinic with the diagnostic gear and parts needed.

My Surface Hub camera shows 'no signal' on Teams — fixable?

Yes — almost always firmware. The internal USB controller for the camera occasionally desyncs after a Windows / Teams update. We re-flash the camera firmware onsite and verify in a test Teams call.

Can the Hub 3 compute cartridge be upgraded?

Microsoft has not yet announced upgrade SKUs for the cartridge. When/if they do, we’ll be a launch partner for swap-in service.

Do you offer SLA contracts for multi-Hub deployments?

Yes — annual SLA pricing depends on Hub count, response-time target and inclusions. Email [email protected] with your deployment details and we’ll quote.

My Hub 2S is past warranty — is repair still economical?

For most faults yes. Touch controller, camera, audio firmware, and even panel replacement on the 50″ come in well under the cost of a new Hub. The 85″ panel itself is the one exception — that’s a significant special-order part.

Microsoft Surface Hub Repairs faults we repair every week

PixelSense digitiser controller failure

Symptom: Entire horizontal or vertical row of touch input stops responding while the rest of the 50-inch or 85-inch panel works

How we fix it: Remove the rear service panel, locate the failed controller board on the segmented digitiser ribbon, swap the controller module and re-calibrate the touch layer without full panel removal.

Repair or replace? repair

Hub 3 ARM compute cartridge fault

Symptom: Device powers on but shows black screen or repeated boot loops on the 2023 Hub 3 models

How we fix it: Power down, release the rear cartridge latch, remove the ARM module, insert a tested replacement cartridge and restore the device configuration from the existing storage.

Repair or replace? repair

Internal USB camera disconnect

Symptom: 4K camera fails to initialise in Teams Rooms with error code or remains listed as disconnected

How we fix it: Run USB tree diagnostics to isolate firmware versus cable fault, replace the short internal USB-C camera harness if required and re-flash camera firmware.

Repair or replace? repair

Far-field mic array firmware mismatch

Symptom: Persistent audio echo or feedback loop during Teams meetings after recent software updates

How we fix it: Connect via the service port, force re-flash of the acoustic-cancellation profile and mic array firmware to the current Microsoft Teams Rooms version.

Repair or replace? repair

PixelSense touch layer delamination

Symptom: Visible air gaps or dead zones appearing along the lower edge of the 50-inch or 85-inch screen after years of wall-mounted use

How we fix it: Remove the affected section of the optical bonding layer, clean the glass and digitiser, then re-bond with fresh optically clear adhesive under vacuum.

Microsoft Surface Hub Repairs — your questions answered

How much does it cost to repair a Microsoft Surface Hub 2S or Hub 3 in Australia?

Most common jobs range from $265 for a firmware re-flash up to $1720 for an ARM compute cartridge swap on the Hub 3. Onsite diagnostic visits start from $165 and are credited toward any repair performed. We provide a written quote after the initial assessment.

Can you come onsite to fix a wall-mounted Surface Hub in a boardroom?

Yes. All Surface Hub 2S and Hub 3 repairs are offered as onsite B2B service across Australian capital cities and major regional centres. Our technicians carry the required tools and replacement controllers or cartridges to complete most jobs without removing the unit from the wall bracket.

Is the Surface Hub 3 compute cartridge user-replaceable or do I need a technician?

The cartridge is designed for field replacement but requires correct power-down sequencing, latch release and post-install configuration. Incorrect handling can corrupt the Teams Rooms image, so we recommend a technician performs the swap to maintain warranty compliance and data integrity.

What warranty do you provide on Surface Hub repairs?

Every repair carries a 90-day warranty covering both parts and labour. If the same fault re-occurs within that period we return onsite at no charge. The warranty does not cover subsequent accidental damage or unauthorised software changes.

How long does a typical Surface Hub repair take on site?

Digitiser controller swaps and camera harness replacements usually finish in 4-6 hours. ARM cartridge exchanges take 2-3 hours. More extensive touch-layer re-bonding is completed in our workshop and typically requires 2-3 business days including transport.
