Common Issues & How We Fix Them
Battery swell — the Pro 5’s #1 issue
After 5-7 years, almost every Pro 5 we see has a swollen battery — the cell expands inside the chassis, pushes the screen off the bonded edge, eventually pops the bezel. Caught at the “feels thicker” stage it’s a clean $400-$520 fix. Wait until the screen separates and you’re at $900+ because the screen assembly has been damaged too.
Surface Connect port wear
Pro 5’s Surface Connect contacts wear flat after 4-5 years of daily plug-cycles. Port flex replacement: $280-$350 fitted, 90 minutes workshop.
Cracked screen

Kickstand spring fatigue
Pro 5 kickstand hinges hold tension well but after 6-7 years some go floppy. Re-tension: $180. Full hinge cluster swap: $420.
