MacBook Pro 2018-2019 Repair — T2 Security Chip Era
Last Updated:
The 2018-2019 MacBook Pro (13″ and 15″) is one of the most repair-relevant generations in Apple’s history — Intel 8th / 9th gen + T2 security chip + soldered NVMe SSD + butterfly keyboard. This is the generation where Apple’s “T2 will hardware-encrypt your data” met “the butterfly keyboard will fail in dust” met “the storage is part of the logic board”. Lots of service work, well-documented failure modes.
2018-2019 MBP-specific service offerings: butterfly keyboard replacement (Apple’s own service program ended 2023, we’re now the alternative — $480-$640 fitted), T2 chip data recovery (requires special tooling and the user’s password, $880-$1,400), logic board repair for the well-known thermal-throttling and flexgate display failures, and battery replacement (soldered to the top case on these — careful glue work).
