On NBN FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) the fibre runs all the way into your home to an NBN Connection Box (NCD), and your router plugs into one of its UNI-D ports – no phone line involved. It’s the fastest NBN type. Here’s how to connect it, and what to do if there’s no internet. The Original PC Doctor sets up NBN connections Australia-wide, onsite or remotely, no fix no fee.

How to set up NBN FTTP – step by step

  1. Find the NBN Connection Box (a white box on the wall) and make sure its power light and optical light are on.
  2. Run an Ethernet cable from your router’s WAN/Internet port to UNI-D 1 on the NBN box (your plan usually uses UNI-D 1).
  3. Power on the router and wait for it to connect; enter your ISP details (PPPoE) if prompted.
  4. Wait for the router’s internet light to go solid – you’re online.
  5. Join Wi-Fi using the details on the router’s label.

How to tell you have FTTP

You have an indoor NBN Connection Box with UNI-D ports (and usually a separate power supply with a battery backup option). No phone-line or coax is used for the connection.

Common problems we fix

Frequently asked questions

How do I set up NBN FTTP?

Connect an Ethernet cable from your router’s WAN port to UNI-D 1 on the NBN Connection Box, power on the router, enter your ISP details if prompted, and wait for the internet light to go solid.

Which UNI-D port do I use for FTTP?

Usually UNI-D 1 – that’s the port most ISPs activate. If it doesn’t work, your ISP can tell you which port your service is on.

Do I need a modem for NBN FTTP?

No – FTTP doesn’t use a phone line, so you only need a router (not a DSL modem). The router plugs into the NBN Connection Box.

My FTTP has no internet – how do I fix it?

Check the NBN box lights and that the router is on UNI-D 1 with the right ISP details. If the box’s optical light is off there may be a line fault. We can diagnose and get you online.

Is FTTP the fastest NBN?

Yes – fibre runs all the way to the home, so FTTP supports the highest NBN speed tiers.

Can you set up my FTTP connection?

Yes – we connect and configure your router, enter ISP details, set up Wi-Fi, and confirm speeds, onsite or remotely.
