How to set up NBN HFC – step by step

- Wait for the box’s lights (power, downstream/upstream, online) to go solid.
- Run an Ethernet cable from your router’s WAN/Internet port to the UNI-D port on the NBN box.
- Power on the router, enter ISP details if prompted, and wait for the internet light to go solid.
- Join Wi-Fi using the details on the router’s label.

Frequently asked questions
How do I set up NBN HFC?
Make sure the coax is connected to the NBN box and it’s powered, wait for its lights to go solid, connect your router’s WAN port to the UNI-D port, power on, enter ISP details if prompted, and wait for the internet light.
What cable does NBN HFC use?
A coaxial (pay-TV style) cable with a screw-on connector feeds the NBN Connection Box. A loose coax connector is a common cause of no internet.
Do I need a modem for NBN HFC?
No – HFC uses a router (not a DSL modem). The router plugs into the NBN Connection Box’s UNI-D port.
My HFC has no internet – how do I fix it?
Check the coax is screwed in tight, the box is powered with a solid online light, and the router is on the UNI-D port with the right ISP details. We can diagnose signal or line faults.
Why does my HFC keep dropping out?
HFC dropouts are often signal-level or line issues, sometimes a loose coax or a fault needing NBN attention. We can confirm the cause and escalate with evidence if needed.
Can you set up my HFC connection?
Yes – we connect the box and router, enter ISP details, set up Wi-Fi and confirm the connection, onsite or remotely.
