Cool head when someone’s precious files are on the line? The Original PC Doctor is looking for remote data recovery technicians to help customers across Australia — working from home to assess data loss, run software-based recovery, and guide people through getting their files back. When a case needs physical or clean-room work, you’ll be the expert who scopes it and coordinates the handover to our recovery lab.
About the role
Data loss is stressful, and you’ll be the reassuring expert who takes charge. Working remotely, you’ll triage each case — accidental deletion, corrupted or RAW partitions, failed external drives, ransomware, photo/video loss from phones and cards — and decide the safest path. For logical failures you’ll run software recovery over a guided remote session; for physical drive failures you’ll explain why DIY makes things worse, scope the job, and arrange the customer’s device into our lab. Honesty and a methodical, do-no-further-harm approach are everything in this role.
A typical day might include
- Taking customer calls and support requests with a calm, reassuring manner
- Triaging data-loss cases and quickly identifying logical vs physical failures
- Running guided remote software-recovery sessions for deleted, corrupted or RAW data
- Advising customers on stopping further damage (when to power down a failing drive)
- Scoping clean-room / physical recovery jobs and coordinating the handover to our lab
- Setting customers up with sensible backups so it doesn’t happen again, and logging jobs in our platform
What you’ll need
- Strong understanding of storage, file systems (NTFS, APFS, exFAT, FAT32) and how data loss happens
- Hands-on experience with software recovery tools (e.g. R-Studio, ReclaiMe, PhotoRec, DMDE or similar)
- The judgement to know when to STOP and escalate to physical/clean-room recovery
- Confidence driving remote-access tools to run recovery live
- Excellent phone manner, clear communication and a calm, honest approach under pressure
- A reliable home internet connection and a quiet space to take calls
- Previous data recovery, IT support or repair experience is a strong plus
