Why backup is different to recovery
Data recovery is what you do after disaster strikes. Backup is what makes disaster a non-event. A well-designed backup — tested, offsite, versioned, recent — turns ‘we lost everything’ into ‘we’re back in 30 minutes’. Without that, a single ransomware hit, laptop theft, or disgruntled employee can end your business in a week.

Experience
Designing and running business backups since 2001 — from Windows Server tape backup through modern cloud-to-cloud and immutable object storage. We’ve seen every failure mode at least twice.
Expertise
Veeam, Acronis, Microsoft 365 Backup, Google Workspace Backup, Synology and QNAP NAS, Wasabi / Backblaze / AWS S3 / Azure Blob, immutable backups, 3-2-1 and 3-2-1-1-0 strategies.
Authority
Certified Veeam and Acronis partners. Referenced as backup consultants by multiple Australian accounting firms and medical practices.
Trust
We test your restores. Untested backups are just hope with extra steps. Every managed backup client gets a quarterly verified restore report — not just a green tick in a dashboard.
Data backup services we provide
Cloud backup setup
Automatic, versioned, offsite backup of your Windows, Mac, and server machines. Typically Veeam, Acronis, or Microsoft 365 Backup depending on what you already use.
Microsoft 365 & Google Workspace
Native cloud accidentally-deleted-email safeguards only go so far. We set up third-party backup of mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, and shared drives — with 7+ year retention.
Local NAS setup
Synology, QNAP, or TrueNAS NAS for fast local restore. Properly configured with Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), snapshots, and a replicated offsite copy (the 3-2-1 rule made real).
Server & VM backup
On-prem server, Hyper-V, VMware, and cloud-VM backup. Application-aware for SQL, Exchange, and file servers. Bare-metal restore capability.
Restore testing

Every month, we test restore a sample of your backup into an isolated sandbox. Find the problem on our time, not yours. Report delivered quarterly.
Disaster-recovery planning
A written, tested DR plan with documented RPO/RTO, named responsibilities, and a run-sheet. The plan that works when the office is on fire — not the one in the drawer nobody’s opened since 2019.
Data backup pricing
Backup has a setup cost and a monthly cost. Both are transparent.
- Cloud backup setup (per machine): from $280 + GST. Covers software install, initial sync configuration, schedule, and first restore test.
- Monthly cloud storage & monitoring: from $24 + GST per machine per month. Includes daily check, monthly test restore, and quarterly report.
- NAS supply & setup: from $1,800 + GST (4-bay consumer NAS with 20 TB usable, RAID-10, snapshot-ready).
- Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace backup: from $6 + GST per user per month.
- Restore test (one-off): $220 + GST — a full verified sample restore including written report.
- DR planning: from $1,600 + GST for a documented, tested DR plan.
All prices exclude GST. Written quotes provided before any work. No-fix-no-fee guarantee on diagnostic work.
How we set up your backup
- Scope. We ask what data matters, what your Recovery Point Objective (RPO) (how much can you lose?) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) (how fast do you need it back?) actually are, and what you’re doing now.
- Design. 3-2-1 at a minimum — three copies of the data, on two different media, one offsite. Often 3-2-1-1-0 for higher-value data (add immutable + verified).
- Build & test. We install, configure, run a first full backup, and restore-test a sample before we call the job done.
- Monitor & review. Managed clients get a daily health check, monthly sample restore, and quarterly reviewed report. Set-and-forget is a marketing story — real backup is monitored.
What makes us different:
- Restores tested, not assumed. If your backup has never been restored, you don’t have a backup. You have an optimistic log file.
- Ransomware-resistant. Immutable cloud storage so that a ransomware attack can’t encrypt your backups along with your live data.
- Readable reports. Quarterly status summary you can actually give to your board or auditor, not a 40-page dashboard screenshot.
- Bandwidth-aware. We measure your actual upload speed (via our free NBN speed test) before sizing cloud-backup schedules — no point scheduling 200 GB nightly if your National Broadband Network (NBN) only pushes 20 Mbps up.
Data backup FAQs
Isn't Microsoft 365 already backed up?
Microsoft backs up its own service. It doesn’t fully cover you if a user accidentally deletes folders beyond the recycle bin window, if someone rage-deletes on their way out, or if a retention policy has been misconfigured. A third-party backup covers your data, not theirs.
How often should my backup run?
Depends on your RPO. For most small businesses, daily is fine (you’re prepared to lose up to a day’s work). For finance, legal, medical, and high-activity teams, we often move to 15-minute or continuous.
Cloud backup or local NAS — which should I use?
Both. 3-2-1 rule: three copies, two media, one offsite. NAS gives you a fast local restore for small mistakes. Cloud gives you disaster-proof offsite protection. Together they cover most realistic failure modes.
What about ransomware?
We use immutable cloud storage (object-lock). Even if your entire environment is encrypted, the backup cannot be modified or deleted by the attacker. This is the single biggest improvement you can make to your ransomware posture.
Can you help after a backup has failed?
Yes — both fixing the failed backup and attempting recovery from whatever partial data exists. See our data recovery service for physical drive recovery.
How long do you keep backups for?
Default retention is 90 days rolling + monthly snapshots for 12 months. Extended retention (7 or 10 years) is available for industries with compliance requirements — accounting, legal, medical, aged care.
